I feel so privileged to be involved with Red Nose. This was the tv interviews conducted at the launch yesterday of Red Nose in Canberra at The Vikings a Club at Erindale. The club donated $15,000 to Red Nose yesterday - how awesome!! ... See MoreSee Less

I thought I'd share some of my 'tips' (for want of a better word) for helping people who are on a grief and healing journey...

1. Accept that grief is a JOURNEY, not just an emotion or a state of being.
2. Everyone’s grief journey is DIFFERENT, including the length of time a person grieves. Importantly: There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to grieve.
3. It’s ok to feel like shit and to be a teary mess and lose the plot - for as long as you need to! After a while, it does become less intense, scary and painful.
4. You never 'get over' the death of a loved one. However, the pain DOES eventually subside and you WILL breathe again and live a life of joy and happiness.
5. Some people don’t know how to deal with grief and may not know ‘what to say’ or ‘what to do’. How they react or not react is THEIR journey, not yours.
6. Take on board only those comments, suggestions and advice that FEELS right to you. Everybody has their own values and sometimes they can be clunky in how they try to help, with comments like “time heals all wounds”, etc. Just breathe and try not to take it personally.
7. Be prepared for the 6 week slump after a death. At first you will have family and friends come out of the woodwork to support you. About 6 weeks later that intense support starts to drop away as people go back to their normal lives. PLEASE reach out for support when you need it and if you start to feel isolated, reach out for help.
8. You are never alone. There is always support, in varying forms, for you and your family. Don’t be worried about asking for help – at any time of the day or night.
9. The following visualisation exercise helped me: Imagine that you are paid a visit by your future self, 10 years from now. He/she is delighted to see you and embraces you. You sit down together and have a loving conversation about your life - beyond your current grief right now. Your future self tells you that: ‘Everything is going to be ok. You are going to get through this and you will be happy again. Your life is going to be amazing. I can’t wait for you to experience it", etc. Add whatever you feel you want to hear your future self say to you.
10. You WILL survive this. You WILL laugh again. You WILL enjoy life again. I promise. xo

Hi all, I am so incredibly excited and grateful because my business has just 'exploded' over the past couple of months!! I'm also super-exhausted as I have been working 7 days a week for a while now, often 12 hours a day (I can't say 'no' to anyone in need!). I'm incredibly humbled that people are choosing me to help them through their 'stuff'. Thank you everyone who has sent people my way and for your referrals and encouragement.

However, this awesome explosion of work has definitely shown the 'cracks' in my business systems and processes - which weren't quite ready for the demand of new clients - as well as ... dare I say it.. my health.
In July, I also had four x 17 year old international uni students move in to board with my kids and I. I've gone from cooking for 3 (or 1, when my ex has the kids), to up to 7 people most nights.

So I want to sincerely apologise from the bottom of my heart for the times when I haven't followed through on what I've promised (eg, recording self-hypnosis audios :-(), or not reaching out to follow-up and check in with clients who have completed my programs :-( - I really do think of you all so very often and I feel very torn for not having been doing this!!

I suppose this is a wake up call for me, as it reinforces that we all need to keep our lives in check and strive for balance (for me = 'walking the talk').

I dearly want to be there for you all, and I also want to be there for me and my kids too. So I'm now putting in place support systems to enable me to continue doing the work I love (helping people unlock their power and live an awesome life), but without experiencing burnout or the death-knell of business: "over-commitment/under delivering".

These are my current positive lifestyle/business changes:
- I've decided to adjust my calendar availability so that my hours are not quite as insane as they have been;
- I'm starting aqua aerobics next week and will diarise these classes - as well as regular walking - so that they form part of my regular daily schedule;
- I'm starting a weekly menu planning system to ensure we are eating healthy. I'm also going to go back to using the amazing cleansing/nutritional system that has worked so well for me in the past.
- I've appointed a regular cleaner (thank you Robyn Weston at Jims Cleaning);
- I've appointed an Administration Manager (thank you Karen Jones);
- I've bought 2 extra fridges/freezers and am now buying food in bulk (thanks to Jordo's Chop Shop for the delicious meats);
- I've moved my exercise Vibration Machine to the lounge room so I can actually USE it!
- I've setup my much-loved musical instruments for all of us to use (I thought you might like to see the attached photo).

Plus there are the emotional boundaries that I am re-visiting at the moment (kinda painful but necessary), as will ensure that my life is as I WANT it to be.. not as I HOPE it will be..

Thank you for reading my [long] post. Perhaps you might also like to share your own suggestions/commitments to achieving balance in your own life...I'm sure it will also inspire me - and others!!

Love and hugs, Simone xo

  • "Simone from Personally Empowered has literally changed my life! As a life-long yoyo dieter, overweight since my teens, I could never find that switch to flick that would make me find the path to permanent weightloss. The siren call of sugar and fats always pulled me back and I was pretty miserable. Using Simone's 'Weigh to Wellness' journey, I finally understood what type of eater i was, and she was able to help me to gain control over the food that had controlled me for my whole life. I have lost 15 kilos in 12 weels, and since I started, not one item of sweet or fried food has touched my lips- and the crazy thing is, I don't miss it! I have a long way to go, but for the first time in my 43 years, I believe I can do it, because I know that the food no longer controls me. Simone is a wonder and she will change your life for the better! I cannot possibly thank her enough for coming into my life."
